“Caure – To Fall” is a play directed by Helena Tornero and starring Miriam Escurriola and Ariadna Chillida. The play takes the audience on a journey through the life, experiences and emotions of a woman who serves as a symbol for countless others. The play links her story to collective struggles, creating a narrative that combines personal experiences with the history of women’s resistance.
With a bold script, scenographic battles and temporal shifts, “Caure – To Fall” portrays the democratic history of Spain under Francoism in the 1940s, 1960s and 1970s. Using motifs such as memory, pain, conflict, identity, resistance and sacrifice, the play shows, through the protagonist, how historical trauma is processed and how it still lingers in the present.
Overall, “Caure – To Fall“ does not seek to provide definitive answers, but rather to create a space for critical dialogue through art, facilitating the transmission of ideas that transcend and endure across generations. Through an intimate connection (both emotional and intellectual) to the experiences of women in resistance, while asserting the importance of recognising inclusive resistance narratives. By stirring discomfort and challenging conventional public knowledge about the reality of the lives and stories of women in resistance.
