Joan Muela

Research

Joan Muela Ribera holds a degree in Philosophy and Letters (Geography and History) (Autonomous University of Barcelona), an MSc in Medical Anthropology (Brunel University, London) and a PhD in Medical Anthropology (Autonomous University of Barcelona). He began his research in Medical Anthropology in the field of International Health in Tanzania, with a study on healthcare processes and social vulnerability due to childhood malaria. His publications are part of the teaching material at different universities in Europe, Asia and the United States, they are widely cited in specialized literature and a textbook and a reader in medical anthropology contain an article of which Joan Muela is co-author. In recent years, Joan Muela has participated, in collaboration with other professionals from different disciplines, in the development of conceptual and methodological frameworks that facilitate socio-anthropological research in International Health projects, maintaining a critical and socially committed perspective.
