Laura Fontana Sierra

Research

PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​she also completed a Master’s in Anthropology from the UB, a University Master’s from the Escola de Pau, a postgraduate degree in Introduction to Development in a Globalized World, and has other degrees in the line of decolonial feminism, NGO management and identification of needs in conflict situations.

Her research topics focus on indigenous peoples, specifically the Mapuche people of Chile (which was the main topic of his doctoral thesis), as well as their rights and other aspects that include cultural categories, ancestral ecological knowledge, extractivism, globalization and community relations.

Currently, Laura is responsible for the Political and Social Advocacy Area of ​​the NGO alterNativa Intercanvi amb Pobles Indígenes, Barcelona, ​​and also has experience coordinating cooperation and advocacy projects both in the Global North and the Global South.
