Ignacio Contreras Ilabaca

Research

Sociologist with fieldwork experience in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Bachelor in Sociology (2017, University of Concepción, Chile) and Master’s Degree in Visual Anthropology (2020, FLACSO, Ecuador). He is currently a doctoral fellow of the Formation of Advanced Human Capital Program of the National Research and Development Agency of Chile (2020-2025) and he is part of the Research Group Anthropology and History of the Construction of Social and Political Identities (AHCISP) in the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). His research topics combine the indigenous ethnology of the South American lowlands and visual studies. His PhD research topic is the fabrication of images and the relationship between amerindian cosmology and visual regimes in a Western Tukano indigenous group from the Ecuadorian Amazon.
