Dr Sabine Braun is Professor of Translation Studies, Director of the Centre for Translation Studies at the University of Surrey, and a Co-Director of Surrey’s Institute for People-Centred AI. Her research explores human-machine interaction and integration in translation and interpreting, especially to improve access to critical information, media content and vital public services for linguistic-minority populations, and other groups and people in need of communication support. For over 10 years, she has led a research programme that investigates distance interpreting via video link to improve language access in the public sector. In addition, she is currently investigating the integration of human agency and artificial intelligence in interpreting and audiovisual translation, including audio description (video-to-speech translation) to improve digital media inclusion. Her overarching interest lies in the notions of fairness, trust, transparency, and quality in relation to technology use.
