Asya Pisarevskaya

Asya Pisarevskaya is a PhD candidate in Sociology and Methodology of Social Research at the Universities of Milan and Turin. In 2011, Asya graduated with honours in Sociology from Moscow State Linguistic University. She then went on to obtain a Joint European Erasmus Mundus Master Degree in International Migration and Social Cohesion (MISOCO) from University of Amsterdam (Netherlands), University of Deusto (Spain) and University of Osnabrück (Germany). Asya also was a visiting study fellow at the Refugee Studies Centre at Oxford University during the Trinity term 2016. Where she gave a Work in Progress Seminar: “Investigating the Role of Policies in Refugees’ Economic Integration. Potential and Challenges of Qualitative Comparative Analysis”.

Recently, she won a Study Award from the Foundation Isacchi Samaja to develop her PhD research project. In her research, she is giving a systematic overview of the integration policies of several European countries and identifying configurations of policy instruments, which facilitate the economic integration of refugees. She employs the methodology of qualitative comparative analysis and logistic regressions to explore inequalities between natives and humanitarian migrants in labour market. Her current research interests are focused on integration policies for humanitarian migrants, economic self-sufficiency and comparative methodology. She has taught several lectures at the University of Milan on the topic of public opinion towards out-groups as part of a MA course on Immigration policies.
