Francisco Santana Armas

Francisco Santana Armas is Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of La Laguna since 2001. Currently immersed in a Research Project entitled School Experiences and Social Inequalities together with the research team of the same name (EDESOC) led by the Professor Carmen Nieves Pérez Sánchez at the University of La Laguna. This sociological study focuses, in particular, on the school experiences of the students of Compulsory Secondary Education. The University of La Laguna has funded this project, in part. The research lines that he covers are the following: analysis of the school experiences of the secondary students; educational reforms in Spain with special interest in secondary education; policies of institutional evaluation of educational systems and the sociology of education in general. All this crossed by the study of educational and social inequalities. Along with this, one of the last research projects in which he has participated is the complex and unfinished constitution of professional groups: social origin, living conditions, practices, and social and labor mentalities of non-university teachers in the Canary Islands, funded by the Canary Islands Government. His latest work, still in print, is titled “School Experiences as an Interpretive Framework for Socio-educational Inequalities in Secondary Education: A Theoretical Approach” in the Journal FORUM SOCIOLOGICO.
