Arif Mahmud

Arif Mahmud is an Associate Lecturer at Middlesex University (Department of Education) and PTHP Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth (Department of Psychology), lecturing in Education and Early Childhood Studies modules. He holds a Masters degree in Education (Psychology) from the Institute of Education, University of London, where he wrote his dissertation on acculturation of second generation British children. Currently, he is doing his PhD at Middlesex University (Department of Education), investigating the role of emotional intelligence in the development of adolescents’ social and emotional abilities and skills and academic performance. It is hoped that the enhancements in academic, social and emotional learning can not only ease the negative effects of social and cultural inequalities in education. His main research interests include emotional intelligence of young children, behavioural intervention programmes and school academic achievement.
