Almudena Nevado Llopis holds a BA degree in Translation and Interpreting and a PhD in Translation, Society and Communication (both from Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain). Her doctoral thesis was focused on intercultural communication in reproductive healthcare settings and she obtained an extraordinary award for it.
From September 2025 Almudena is a lecturer in the Department of Translation, Interpreting, and East Asian Studies at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In the past, she has worked as a linguistic expert and collaborator at Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna (Italy) and as an associate professor at Universidad San Jorge (Saragosse, Spain). She has also collaborate at the Master’s Degree in Intercultural Communication and Public Service Interpreting and Translation at Universidad de Alcalá (Alcalá de Henares, Spain) and at the Master’s Degree in Specialised Translation at Universidad de Vic (Vic, Spain), where she has respectively teach healthcare interpreting and business interpreting.
She has done research stays at the School of Medical Education, King’s College – London (UK) and the Facultatea de Litere at Universitatea Babes-Bolyai (Romania).
She has participated in several funded European projects, among which Research & Action and Training in Medical Interpreting (ReACTMe), in which she was the principal investigator, stands out.
Her main research interests are focused on public service interpreting, especially healthcare interpreting, interpreting in asylum and refugee contexts, management of the emotional impact by interpreters, intercultural communication, and the development of intercultural competence. She has numerous publications and communications in national and international conferences related to these topics.
