Eva Maciocco is a translator, interpreter and intercultural mediator with South Asian communities in Barcelona (India and Pakistan). Since 2014, she has been working in the XEIX project (Barcelona City Council), winner of the first prize of the Diversity Advantage Challenge (European Council), an award for intercultural innovative projects.
In 2016 she co-founded the research group RecerPak for the study of the Pakistani community in Barcelona, together with Alejandra Tercero, Berta Güell, Komal Naz and la Marina Arrasate. Between 2016 and 2017, with other members of the research group, she co-authored a research on Pakistani retail shops in Raval commissioned by the Ciutat Vella District (Barcelona City Council) and Barcelona Activa. Before joining XEIX team, she was a project coordinator and research assistant at the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Immigration GRITIM (2011-2014) and the social sciences laboratory BES LAB at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She did her internship at the Department of Asian Communities of Casa Asia in Barcelona. She also worked for several NGOs in social and educational programs (Fundació Tot Raval, CUAMM, A l’estiu Barcelona t’acull, etc.), and as a freelance translator and backgrounder journalist in the context of interculturalism.
She has a M.Sc. in Immigration Management from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and a B.A. in Translating and Interpreting from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with a major in English and Italian, and a minor in Hindi. She spent one year abroad at the University of Birmingham (UK) at the Departments of Modern Languages and Sociology (2009) and at the University of Oxford, Nuffield College (2013). She speaks Catalan, English, Italian, Hindi, Spanish and Urdu.ç
