Marc Miranda is pursuing a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Alessio Celi. Our goal is to advance schemes for the quantum simulation of topological and gauge theories in ultracold atom systems. In particular, the main objective of the project is the simulation of a quantum spin liquid, a phase of matter with very exotic properties: anyonic and fractionalized excitations, topological degeneracy and long-range quantum entanglement.
