Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2024

Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) is an event celebrated every year worldwide aiming at raising awareness about the importance of digital accessibility in an increasingly diverse and inclusive society, leaving no one behind.

In 2024, TransMedia Catalonia celebrates GAAD 2024 with five activities:

Dedicated session: “Jornada d’accessibilitat digital”

Where? Escola d’Administració Pública de Catalunya (Carrer Girona, 20, Barcelona)

When? May 14, 2024, from 10.00 to 14.00 CEST (Catalan)

Who? Staff of the Generalitat departments and public sector entities

Join us for a dedicated session tailored for Generalitat departments and public sector entities, designed to delve into the latest regulatory and technological advancements in accessibility, as well as explore future directions.

Here’s what’s on the agenda:

  1. Unveiling breakthroughs in accessibility and addressing remaining challenges.
  2. Shifting the perspective of accessibility from a mere component to an integral aspect, thus dismantling the segmentation prevalent in digital development.
  3. Dispelling the myth of accessibility as a dull and daunting obligation.
  4. Embracing emerging technologies such as the metaverse and AI as our allies.

The session will be led by experts in the field including Anna Matamala, Director of AccessCat Network and lead researcher at TransMedia Catalonia (UAB); Horacio Saggion; Estel·la Oncins Noguer; Esther Peña, Deputy Director-General of Citizen Services; and Ester Manzano, General Director of Digital Services and Citizen Experience.

Webinar: “Ensuring an Inclusive & Accessible Green Transition”

This online event will explore strategies to make the green transition inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Achieving sustainability requires environmental initiatives to be available to everyone, particularly those often marginalised. Our webinar will not only tackle significant environmental issues but also emphasise the need to consider gender, disabilities, age, cultures, and other intersectional factors in order to ensure a truly inclusive green transition.

The event aims to promote an inclusive dialogue, amplifying diverse voices to ensure comprehensive participation in environmental matters. We will showcase practical, accessible solutions from projects like GreenSCENT, ClearClimate, GreenTeens, Accting, Rethink Action, and I-CHANGE, which aims, through practical actions and tools, to promote an inclusive and accessible green transition for all.

Meeting with the AccessCat Network

AccessCat invites its affiliated entities to a meeting to get to know each other and share experiences related to accessibility and the research carried out by the network’s research groups.

CROMA visit: “Veure-hi amb les orelles, sentir-hi amb els ulls”

Where? Faculty of Translation and Interpreting

Who? Only for CROMA participants

TMC has designed the activity “Veure-hi amb les orelles, sentir-hi amb els ulls” (Listening with your ears, seeing with your eyes) as part of the CROMA programme (Fundació Autònoma Solidària). Children in schools in the area surrounding UAB have been working on co-creating 360º videos and have learned about accessibility services. On 21 May they will visit our research team at the university to show the results from their workshops. We will prepare some activities for them to continue raising awareness about accessibility.
