
Laia Nualart Moratalla is a pre-doctoral researcher at Centre d’Estudis Sociològics sobre la Vida Quotidiana i el Treball (QUIT), Institut d’Estudis del Treball (IET), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Her research is oriented towards the study of labour and relational exclusion from an intersectional approach.
Laia has a degree in Political Science and Administration (UPF). After graduating, she studied a Master’s Degree in Social Policy, Work and Welfare (UAB) and a postgraduate degree in Data Analyst for Political Analysis and Public Management (UB). During her studies, she did two internships, one at Institut Català de les Dones, in the area of promotion of activities and entities (2018) and another one at Barcelona Activa, providing technical support in the area of labour market and job seeking activities (2019-2020). Between 2020 and 2021 she worked as a technician at Barcelona Activa, working on basic technology training projects to reduce the digital divide in the city of Barcelona. Subsequently, she continued her career as an equality technician at Consultoria MIT, taking part in the development of projects in the field of gender equality and diversity for public and private organisations: equality plans, protocols against sexual harassment, studies on gender violence and gender equality, among others.
Since June 2023 she has been working as a pre-doctoral researcher at QUIT, with a Joan Oró doctoral grant (FI) awarded by Generalitat de Catalunya. Since joining QUIT, she has participated in the research project ‘Social capital and residential environment in the young population at risk of labour exclusion. A case study’, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (reference code: PID2021-125218NB-I00). The main objective of this research is to examine the dynamics of exclusion and accumulation of disadvantages among young people, in order to assess whether prolonged periods of unemployment or job insecurity lead to the loss of social capital useful for labour market insertion.
