The INCASI2 project proposes to construct an innovative multidimensional measure of social inequality that we call DYSIC: Dynamics of Socioeconomic Inequality in Comparison. The aim is to create a tool for examining and understanding the functioning of socioeconomic inequalities that can be used for international comparative analysis.
Our approach to creating this complex measure involves reconceptualising the dimensions of inequality through a comparative analysis perspective. This requires the construction of integrative concepts of socio-economic inequality that can be applied universally, regardless of a country’s level of development or its specific circumstances.
Our proposal for a new conceptualisation of socio-economic inequalities and the development of the DYSIC inequality measures will be guided by the AMOSIT model: Analytical Model of Socioeconomic Inequalities and Trajectories developed in the INCASI1 project, which integrates the 6 lines of research of the INCASI2 project: labour, education, stratification, gender, migration and public policies.
The proposed DYSIC index is constructed from three main initial dimensions: education, occupation and income as an expression of a causal mechanism [education → occupation → income] from which the gender dimension and the dynamic dimension are introduced to generate three different indices:
