
A graduate in Political Science and Sociology, he holds a PhD in Sociology and an Official Master’s Degree in the direction and management of social programmes. He has more than 13 years of experience in numerous competitive calls for R&D&I projects and contracts, mainly in projects related to the sociology of culture, social mobility, health organisations and health technology assessment, both at international (DG SANTE-EC, H2020, 7FP) and national and regional level.
He has written numerous technical, scientific-technical, advisory, dissemination and policy reports. He has extensive advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of a wide range of procedures and working practices related to evidence synthesis and evaluation of health technologies or services. Has extensive work experience (> 10 years) in medical/applied science and evidence synthesis, data interpretation, systematic literature reviews and critical appraisal of scientific literature. This activity has resulted in more than 40 articles and other scientific products, more than 60% of which have been published in high impact journals (JCR and SCOPUS), including systematic reviews.
From his participation in calls for proposals, +20 R&D projects and contracts have been completed (mainly in health and evaluation of health services). In the H2020 INCASI project (4 years), he participated as a researcher and co-director of the University of Seville team with universities from England, Holland, France and Italy, among others. During the ERN Assessment contract with the EC (3 years), he participated, first as a collaborator in the formulation of the technical proposal and then as Training Officer contributing to the selection and management of the training of the evaluators of the European reference networks for the treatment of rare and low prevalence diseases (ERNs). He holds an official BULLATS certificate with a C1 in English, which allows him to present results clearly and accurately in written and oral format in both English and Spanish.
He is currently a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Seville, focusing his research on the intertwining of Arts and Sciences, and serves as an Independent Expert for the European Commission’s European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) in charge of the evaluation and review of research projects in the framework of the Horizon Europe call for proposals.
