
Carlos Costa Ribeiro
Professor and researcher at IESP – UERJ, an institution that continues the research tradition of IUPERJ. Carlos holds a PhD in Sociology from Columbia University. He was a visiting researcher at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University.
His main research topic is the determinants of inequality of economic opportunities across life cycles and between generations. To this end, he has studied topics such as intergenerational social mobility, unequal educational opportunities, social classes, racial inequalities, marriage markets, transitions to adulthood, crime and justice. He has recently published two books: ‘Class Structure and Social Mobility in Brazil’ (2007), and ‘Inequality of Opportunities in Brazil’ (2009).
