On October 6 and 7, 2025, the symposium Violence and Social Inequality in Latin America and Spain was held at the Faculty of Sociology of the UPO, aiming to provide a multidisciplinary analysis of some of the facets that shape manifestations of violence in Latin America and Spain. The event featured a large attendance from students to hear the presentations by faculty from UPO and the University of Seville: Pilar Cruz Zúñiga (UPO), Structural Inequalities and Gender Violence in Latin America (opening lecture); Virginia Gutiérrez Barbarrusa (UPO), Citizen Participation and Public Policies; Jesús Ignacio Delgado (US), Struggles in Latin America for the Rights of LGTBI People in Contexts of Violence and Social Conflict; and David Sánchez Rubio (US), Systems of Domination, Inequalities, and Human Rights (closing lecture). The symposium was supported by the UPO Department of Sociology (Research Support Plan) and collaborated with the INCASI2 project and the DINAMOS research group (SEJ-692).
