Global Accessibility Awareness Day is an event that takes place every year all around the world and aims at raising awareness about the importance of digital accessibility for a more inclusive society. The 9th Annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day will take place as scheduled on the third Thursday of May, May 21st, 2020.

This will be TransMedia Catalonia’s third year of participation in this international initiative. To celebrate GAAD in previous years, TransMedia Catalonia opened the doors of its lab to the public to allow them to test a range of assistive technologies. Due to the exceptional circumstances brought about this year by COVID-19, the research group have contributed to GAAD online in the form of  accessible videos via the TransMedia Catalonia YouTube channel and a series of Twitter polls in which questions regarding accessibility in audiovisual media where directed to the public, the results of which can viewed on the TransMedia Catalonia Twitter page.

European funded projects EASIT, IMPACT, TRACTION, HELIOS, SO-CLOSE, LTA, REBUILD, EasyTV and ImAc are presented, along with the RAD state project on audio description and the ALMA research network which brings together different research groups working on accessibility. Representatives from each project present in these accessible videos with integrated audio description and subtitles available in multiple languages.
