The CEO-UAB is a university research center established in 1989 by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). It has an interdepartmental structure within the university and an interuniversity orientation, and it is integrated into the UAB Research Park (Parc de Recerca UAB).

The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona was founded in 1968. Today, it is one of the Spanish universities recognized as a Campus of International Excellence. According to the QS World University Rankings 2025, the UAB is ranked as the second university in Spain and holds position 172 worldwide (and 4th in Southern Europe) among the world’s top 500 universities.

The CEO-UAB is governed by the Government of Catalonia (regional level), the Barcelona City Council (local level), the Spanish Olympic Committee, and the UAB. Since 1995, the CEO-UAB has also maintained a stable collaboration agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through the International Chair in Olympism (IOC–UAB).
