Olympic Communication
The relationship between the media and sport in general, and between the media and the Olympic Games in particular, has been one of the key areas of research of the CEO-UAB.
The main objective of this line of research is to analyse the close relationship between the media and sport in terms of financial synergy, the internal logic of the system and organisational structures.
Strategic Objectives
- To analyse a new dynamic communication environment in global sport and its transfer to society.
- To establish international collaborations with prestigious academic research groups for research and the dissemination of knowledge.
- To introduce studies into the field of communication from a holistic, cross-cutting and multidisciplinary approach, with the capacity to address the inherent complexities of this field of study.
Impact and Management of Sporting Events
Since the celebration of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, the CEO-UAB has carried out and supported a large number of research projects on the impact of the Barcelona Olympic Games.
This line of research, focused on the Olympic Games, has been expanded to encompass the area of management and the impact of sporting events.
Strategic Objectives
- To strengthen the role of the CEO-UAB as an R&D center that contributes to improving the management process of sporting events in its community and, in particular, those related to the institutions represented on its governing body.
- To develop and support research, training, and outreach activities on methodologies and tools for information and knowledge management, in order to analyze the impact of sporting events on host communities, either through internal resources or in partnership with other research units.
- To raise awareness among public stakeholders and event organizers about the importance and benefits of investing in research on the impact of events.
History of the Olympic Games
In recent years, the CEO‑UAB has promoted a line of activity in the history of sport and Olympism in Spain, with the aim of contributing to the preservation of the memory of Catalan sporting heritage.
Strategic Objectives
- To promote, lead, and develop memory projects on the history of Olympism in Catalonia, with the aim of contributing to the preservation of the memory of Catalan sporting heritage.
- To complement the focus of this research field on communication and sport with an analysis of the relationship between communication and sport in Catalonia and Spain from a historical perspective.
- To promote the dissemination of the results obtained from studies to society, with the aim of generating knowledge about our sporting history.
- To contribute to the identification of documentary sources for the history of sport and Olympism in Catalonia that could be collected and disseminated through the Barcelona Olympic Documentary Memory project.
Sport, Culture and Society
El CEO-UAB ha promovido proyectos en diversas áreas del deporte y del Olimpismo.
The thematic scope of these projects is very broad and includes, among others, sports marketing and sponsorship, economics, adapted sport, sport for all, sport management, distance education for sport managers, and the Olympic programme.
Strategic Objectives
- To strengthen the research work developed in the social and cultural aspects of sport, as well as to support doctoral studies and subsequent documentary research, and to participate in or lead research projects.
- To promote and facilitate the transfer of knowledge generated by research to society and the sports industry.
