Within the framework of the MEXT project, in which the MIRAS group participates, three researchers from the group have traveled to Japan for a few days to participate in several academic conferences and activities to disseminate the group’s research.

Dr. Marta Arumí gave a lecture at Aichi Prefectural University in Nagoya, entitled Revisiting the Roles of Interpreters and Mediator in Public Services through the lens of Trust and Professionalization: Examples from the Spanish Healthcare System, in a conference dedicated to reflecting on the role of mediation in multilingual societies. Anabel Pérez-Real, predoctoral researcher, presented the progress of her thesis in a colloquium with students from the same university.

Both researchers presented the CIMAS project at the Second International Conference on Legal and Healthcare Interpreting from the International Christian University in Tokyo with the paper Mediated Intercultural Communication in the Spanish Health System: The CIMAS Project.

Dr. Arumí then presented Stakeholders’ Perspectives and Attitudes Towards Mediated Intercultural Communication In the Spanish Healthcare System: A Focus Group and Interviews Study, the data of which also come from the CIMAS project. In parallel, Pérez-Real gave presentations Mediated Intercultural Communication in Catalonia’s Healthcare System: Exploring the Perspectives of Intercultural Mediators and Healthcare Providers, with data coming from the same project, and Vocal challenges in Legal and Healthcare Settings: How Interpreting Modality and Context Shape Interpreter’s Vocal Needs, based on data derived from his doctoral thesis.

Dr. Sofía García-Beyaert presented the paper Situated Dialogues for Healthcare Interpreting Practice and Training: The APU-UAB Experience, where he presented a collaborative project to develop training materials based on situated dialogues to improve the training of interpreters in the healthcare field, highlighting its pedagogical foundations, educational advantages and applications inside and outside the classroom.

Finally, Dr. Arumí participated as a panelist in the Public Symposium on Legal Interpreting organized by Aichi Prefectural University, held at the International Christian University in Tokyo to close the congress.
