Her research interests include poverty, vulnerability, social inequalities and equity policies, on which she has coordinated several research projects and the scientific area of the same name. She has published the books: Jefatura femenina de hogar, pobreza urbana y exclusión social (2009), Familia y pobreza en Cuba (2010) and compiled or edited 8 other volumes: Pobreza, exclusión social y discriminación étnico-racial en América Latina y el Caribe (2008); Algunas claves para pensar la pobreza en Cuba desde la mirada de jóvenes investigadores (2014), Retos para la equidad social en el proceso de actualización del modelo económico cubano (2015), Social Policies and Decentralization in Cuba. Change in the Context of 21st-Century Latin America (2017), Debates actuales sobre política social. Cuba en el contexto de América Latina y el Caribe (2017), Desarrollo local y equidad en Cuba (2018), Sistematización evaluativa Seminario Permanente de Políticas Sociales (2021) and Interseccionalidad, Equidad y Políticas Sociales (2022); as well as numerous articles and book chapters. She has been a visiting scholar at Harvard, Dalhousie, Queens and Rutgers Universities and has won research awards from: Comparative Poverty Studies Programme of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), Cuban Academy of Sciences and UH. He is a full member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. She coordinates the CLACSO Working Group Qué desarrollo? Multi-stakeholder and multi-level dialogue, and is a member of the Advisory Council of the Central American Institute of Studies and Development.
