Cultural and Creative Industries in the Community of Madrid:
context and economic development 2008 – 2014
According to the academic article written by researchers Eduardo Rodríguez, Elena Real and Gloria Rosique, and based on the MELICC methodology, the Community of Madrid (CAM) is the leader in Spain with respect to the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI). This article applies the model, based on a harmonized and comparable methodology between the Autonomous Communities, to analyze the evolution of CCIs in the Community in the current crisis context, in order to know to what extent they have contributed to the generation of Employment and what has been its contribution to the wealth of the region and to the national gross national product. The aim is to build tools to improve current statistical parameters and facilitate the implementation of policies by the regional government, establishing a better connection with European objectives.
This contribution is part of the project The transformation of cultural and creative industries in Spain: digital change, competitiveness, employment and contribution to social welfare in Horizon 2020, developed by the research group Localcom in the framework of the National R&D+I Plan, financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The project has generated a statistical model with data comparable to those used by the European Union, based on surveys by the National Statistical Institute (INE) and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (MECD) reports, among other sources.
