The opening ceremony of the Càtedra Jordi Arbonès Chair was held on May 21, 2003 at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The Vice Minister of Research, Josep Santaló, and the Dean of the Faculty of Translation, Joan Fontcuberta, opened the session. Next, the writer Joaquim Carbó glossed the biographical profile of Jordi Arbonès, and the poet and translator Francesc Parcerisas spoke about the translator’s activity of the honoree. |

To close the ceremony, the actress Rosa Novell read some pieces of works translated by Jordi Arbonès and the musicians Marcel Casellas and Mohamed Soulimane offered a brief performance. |

Glòria and Xavier Arbonès, who also participated in the event, adressed a few words to the public. Finally, a commemorative plaque was uncovered in the Board Room of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation, which was renamed Sala Jordi Arbonès. |
